In the whole of KARNATAKA STATE, BIT was the pioneer in establishing
the COMPUTER SCIENCE department, with affiliation to BANGALORE UNIVERSITY.
Bangalore Institute of Technology was the first institute
in the state of Karnataka to offer the course of Computer Science &
Engineering in the year 1982 and the syllabus was framed by the then
H.O.D, Prof. M. Ramakrishna. , ever since then the department has adopted
and evolved with the fast pace of technology. It continues to foster
and inculcate the innovation and breadth of vision necessary to excel
in booming software industry. The experienced faculty exposes the would
be computer engineers to a rigorous and exhaustive curriculum designed
to bring out the best in them and to keep them in touch with the latest
technology. Besides imparting theoretical knowledge, a lot of stress
is laid on training and overall development of the individual personality.
The department strongly believes that neither the industry
neither the industry nor the academics alone have the resources to adequately
deal with the quest for innovative excellence in this field of computers.
Here, the institute-industry interface programmes enable the student
to interact constantly with the industry.
COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT STAFF:
Prof. NANDAGOPALAN presently spearheads the department.
He has completed his M.Sc in 1980,followed by an M.TECH in INDUSTRIAL
ELECTRONICS from K.R.E.C. SURATHKAL in 1982 and also has an M.S. in
SOFTWARE SYSTEM from BITS PILANI . Since 1983,he has been in teaching
profession and is involved in various academic activities like teaching
electronics, computer science related subjects and has also guided several
projects, which have got NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL awards.
He is also the author for three technical text books:
SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICES AND TECHNOLOGY.
DATA STRUCTERS WITH C.
OBJECT ORIENTED PROGRAMMING WITH C++
The COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT has a rich set of
well-qualified, dedicated and experienced STAFF MEMBERS in the field
of computer software and hardware.
Several staff members are currently doing their research
work and are involved in taking care of several software projects.
COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT LAB & ACTIVITIES:
Since the establishment of the course, the department
had adequate number of COMPUTER SYSTEMS, to cater to the needs of the
students. Currently, the lab is equipped with:
1.Novell Netware LAN Network With 15 clients connected.
All the machines are Pentium based.
2.A LAN Network with WINDOWS NT as OPERATING SYSTEM
with 15 clients connected.
3.A UNIX SEVER with 20 clients connected.
4.A MICROPROCESSOR Lab with all infrastructures required
for interfacing with computer.
5.A LOGIC DESIGN lab has been constituted mainly to take care of DIGITAL
ELECTRONIC EXPERIMENTS for COMPUTER SCIENCE students.
INSTITUTE INDUSTRY INTERACTION:
The DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE constantly organizes
seminars and other interactive programs to keep the student community
updated about the latest happening in the IT-SECTOR.
COMPUTER CAREER ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM
